Stevie...I grew up in R I, across the bay from Bristol Yatch Co....Hereshoff Sailing Co....the Americas Cup Headquarters. Lots of opportunities.... By the time I was 40, I had owned over 20 different boats...all but one were sailboats. The one power boat was a hydroplane I built in 11th grade.

Em....I have heard that fate and intended fortune are related. I can see parallel circumstances in my own life. Times where I had been aided by an apparent turn in good fortune, yet it hardly changed my intended course. Just a natural outgrowth or result of my effort, although unrelated in most cases.

I didn't really set out to be an academic. It's just that I never discovered a talent other than making grades. There are some careers unsuitable for a guy missing a real foot. I started taking ballroom dancing lessons to master the use of my prosthesis, which is how I met my future wife. It all sort of happened without my ever making a decision. I wonder sometimes how much of what we do is really a matter of choice.

A club that I'm a member of had a Sixties Hippie Party. Most of the members were young then, so the outfits were pretty authentic. I found a wig, but there was no way to duplicate the beard that I had in 1969. The people that I knew then couldn't believe how I turned out, but some of them became lawyers and bankers, too.

I find catfacejb comical. He was on the Texans board talking about how bad our team is. It is bad, of course, but the audacity of a Lions fan calling any team bad is amazing. I guess when you are that frustrated you have to find some outlet. I'm ashamed to admit that I bashed him at first, but I came to find him hilarious. That much denial is awesome! And like EB, he is really loyal to his team.
